Madness Monday - Unraveling DNA

I’ve been asking you to share your Madness Monday genealogy stories, and I’m still on the lookout for more! Unfortunately, I was too busy with house projects and spending Saturday with our oldest son to prepare a post for today. Sometimes, you just have to set aside this addictive, all-consuming passion to spend time with the living.

These days, we’re not limited to just records to trace our ancestors’ paper trails. We now have the most powerful, game-changing tool—DNA. It’s helping unravel mysteries and exposing secrets our ancestors took to the grave.

I could write a book on my DNA mystery: M. O. Jenkins, my 3x great-grandfather. I recently shared my latest conclusions about what the DNA is telling us so far about the father of M.O. Jenkins. However, I haven’t yet begun the journey to uncover who M. O.’s mother might be through DNA research.

Please share your stories, whether or not DNA is involved! Maybe someone out there can help you solve your Madness Monday mystery. For guidance on how to share genealogy details, feel free to revisit my post, Madness Monday - It's alive!

When sharing DNA mysteries, remember to keep matches private, as they may be living relatives. You can share the number of centimorgans (cM) you share with them. If you’ve done a WATO or BanyanDNA tree or theory, feel free to include that as well, but always protect the privacy of living individuals.

I look forward to reading your posts, and maybe I—or someone in the genealogy community—can help you solve your mystery. That’s what I love about this community: we’re always here to help each other.
