Jenkins Research - Analyzing the Autosomal DNA matches

While I'm anxiously awaiting the Big-Y DNA test for Mike Jenkins test I laid out a plan for research.

What to do next:
  1. Analyze the autosomal DNA connections on ancestry.
    1. Based on the cms of each connection, what is their probable relationship to my father?
    2. Based on the probable relationships, is Drury or one of his brothers the more likely candidate to be the father of M.O. Jenkins?
    3. Look at the wife: Does Sarah McKee share any DNA connection with M.O. Jenkins descendants?
  2. Find marriage record for Drury Jenkins and Sarah McKee.
    1. Research question: Were they married in South Carolina before 1831?
    2. Or; Were they married in North Carolina before 1831?
  3. Who are the brothers of Drury Jenkins?
    1. First, who is the father of Drury Jenkins?
    2. Drury was born in North Carolina according to multiple census records. Was North Carolina keeping birth records at that time around 1808?
    3. Check church records. What religion was Drury?
  4. Find Bastardy Bonds for any Jenkins father around 1824?
    1. Was Drury Jenkins in Lincoln County, NC in 1823-1824?
    2. Is Drury or any of his brothers named in a Bastardy Bond?
I have my work cut out for me. Drury Jenkins and his family are my primary target of research. First let's analyze the DNA data. This may give me more clues and research questions.

I’m going back to the DNA chart list previously showing DNA connections to David M Jenkins, son of Drury Jenkins as well as connections to Drury’s siblings. First I’m going to put that chart into list form and look at each connection one at a time. I will run an analysis based on their cms to determine a probable family connection.

  • DRURY JENKINS FAMILY LINE
    • Alvin Woolsey - tester
    • Robert Gay - 5th to 8th cousins - 14 cM across 1 segment
  • DEWNEY JENKINS FAMILY LINE
    • Nataiegp - 5th to 8th cousin - 10 cM across 1 segment
  • HEZEKIAH JENKINS FAMILY LINE
    • Dsheffield148 - 5th to 8th cousin - 15 cM across 1 segment
    • Tyler Sheffield - 5th to 8th cousin - 15 cM across 1 segment
    • Jdrelken - 5th to 8th cousin - 15 cM across 1 segment
  • ESTHER MATILDA JENKINS FAMILY LINE
    • Judy Vickery - 5th to 8th cousin - 8 cM across 1 segment
    • Judy Harrison - 5th to 8th cousin - 8 cM across 1 segment
Esther, being a female I will rule out and not research at this time. Now I need to look at Dewney, Drury, and Hezekiah. Based on the DNA these appear to be brothers. What is also interesting is that the descendants are all roughly 4th or 5th cousins, sometimes once removed from my father based on where they fall in their tree and they all share relatively the same amount of DNA cM’s to my father. Below are the possible relationships based off of 14 cMs.

Of course, half 4th cousin is off the chart. So now it’s time to follow the paper trail. I still need to look at Sarah McKee, does she share any DNA match with M.O. descendants. So far, no matches have been found for Sarah McKee. I’ve added Sarah as a Hypothetical mother. This will take a day or two to reset, so I’ll come back to this question.

Going back one more generation that showed up we have even more connections to M.O.

I need to research all of these men and build out this entire tree. I can’t help but notice that the descendant of Benjamin Jenkins shares more cMs than all the others, and he is an uncle of Drury.

Even though DNA is telling me that this may be the family line, I’m still suspicious. My biggest suspicion is that I can’t place this family in Lincoln County, NC at any point, more less around the time of M.O. conception. I am very suspicious of Thru Lines because I know that it is based off of trees combined with DNA, and all it takes is a bunch of DNA connections to create an incorrect tree and we’ve got connections to people who are NOT our ancestors.
