Dear Reader,

We are getting so close to a release. I can taste the sweet victory after years of research and now months of bringing Richard Woolsey’s amazing and heartbreaking story to life. Above is the cover that I just finished, and below, I summarize the book.

I’ve set the book up for beta readers to provide feedback, so if any of you are beta readers, please look for the book and sign up or contact me. I would love to know your thoughts. For the rest of you, it shouldn’t be much longer before I hit the "publish" button on His Greatest Regret.

Book summary:

In the wake of his beloved wife Alice’s death, Richard Woolsey’s world shatters. Left alone to raise six children in 1862, Indiana, he struggles to maintain his composure while grief threatens to overwhelm him. His only solace comes through letters written to Alice, pouring out his heart to a wife who can no longer answer.

When Richard meets Charlotte Nolan, a sharp-tongued Irish-American widow with four children of her own, he sees not love but a practical solution. Charlotte’s commanding presence and fierce independence offer stability his family desperately needs. Their marriage, born of necessity rather than passion, promises a fresh start for both families.

Yet Richard’s restless spirit and dreams of western prosperity clash with Charlotte’s pragmatic nature. As he chases opportunities across the frontier, their relationship strains under the weight of distance and divided loyalties. The birth of their son William brings momentary joy, but Richard’s constant wanderlust ultimately tears the family apart.

From the fertile fields of Indiana to the bustling streets of Arkansas City, and through the rugged mining camps of the American West, Richard’s journey is one of ambition, regret, and the eternal hope of redemption. His pursuit of success becomes an obsession that blinds him to the cost of his choices, leaving behind a wake of broken promises and fractured relationships.

This powerful historical novel explores the complexity of second chances, the price of ambition, and the devastating consequences of choosing dreams over family. Through Richard and Charlotte’s story, we witness how the wounds of loss can drive us to both rebuild and destroy the very foundations we seek to create.
